Peach Semifreddo

So, after all my griping about the cold weather, and soup after soup recipe, how about a recipe for ice cream?

Well technically this isn’t ice cream. It’s a semifreddo. Semifreddo translates to “half cold” in Italian, and can refer to various cold desserts. This one is basically a no churn ice cream. Now, because it isn’t churned, it’s not quite as smooth as ice cream.

I used a recipe from Carol at Simply…Gluten Free. I was very excited when I read her post. Who knew you could make ice cream without an ice cream maker? Not me.

I pretty much followed her recipe save for subbing peach juice for the pomegranate juice. (We really love pomegranates. Pomegranate juice on the other hand…nowhere near as good.) And I topped my semifreddo with pistachios. So, if you want the recipe, I’m going to send you over to look at her semifreddo recipe.

Hope you all enjoy, and thanks Carol!

Thank you for the link – I admit I have never tried to make something like this.

Hi Charlotte! Your site it certainly link-worthy, it’s great. :)

I hope you get the chance to give the semifreddo a try. It’s really easy and pretty tasty. Unfortunately, it doesn’t pack very well for school lunches. ;)

I keep telling myself to make ice cream but, I never get around to doing it. I bet it’s better than anything you can buy. Is the semifreddo lower in calories then regular ice cream?

Hi Chuck,

I would agree that the taste is great, but of course, just like any food you make it certainly depends on the quality of ingredients. This recipe is very easy to make, it takes about 5 minutes of active work. I say you should definitely give it a try.

As to the calories, I really don’t know. The main ingredients are heavy cream and sugar. Which is pretty much the same as ice cream. I’d imagine you could play around with a calorie calculator to find out, but I haven’t.
