Monkey Bread

Post image for Monkey Bread

My sister was in town this weekend, so we had her and her boyfriend over for brunch yesterday. I’ve been wanting to make monkey bread ever since I came across Jill’s recipe a while back, and this seemed like a good opportunity to make it.

All in all it was pretty good. The only thing I’d note is that we used more cinnamon than she calls for (not sure exactly how much more, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we doubled or even tripled the amount), and we still felt it could use more. So, if you like a caramel taste, make the recipe as is. If you really like cinnamon, you’ll need a lot more than listed in the recipe.

Either way I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Thanks Jill! :D

WHOA that looks good. Do they call it monkey bread because it looks like monkey brains? (Delicious, “I can’t wait to try it” monkey brains, not the gross kind.)

Based on my (very thorough and formal ;) Google research, it looks like no one really knows the origin of the name. “Because it looks like monkey brains” was not one of the possibilities, but I might start telling people that anyway. :D

Mmmm, Monkey bread! I haven’t had it in so long. Mom used to make it all the time. This is definitely happening soon.

They call it Monkey Bread, because you pick it apart with your hands, and eat it it like a monkey. Similar to the way they pick each other’s scalps for bugs and such to keep clean, and to build social bonds.

But yeah, it does look like monkey brains (and tastes like ‘em too!)

I am so happy that Braden gave me this site. Because I am definitely going to make this. It looks FANTASTIC!!! I am also ecstatic to try the LadyBaby cakes! Thank you so much for writing this blog.

Hi Constance,

Well, I guess I’m happy he told you about it. ;)

The monkey bread was quite good. It takes a little bit of work, but I say it’s definitely worth it.

It does look like monkey brains… that’s what I thought too when I first saw it on Google images. I was repulsed but then I realized it was food. I’ve seen monkey brains before too I think..
